Due to open in 2010 / 11, the Museum of Liverpool is now one of the most impressive buildings on Liverpool’s famous waterfront.
Whilst the exterior of the building is almost complete, we’re working hard behind the walls and the museum’s 28 metre-wide windows to make sure the inside of the building is ready for the displays to move in.
So, for the first time here’s a chance to see the progress being made inside and the work that’s being done to ensure it stands out as one of the best museums in the world.

The Secret Life of Smithdown
On 1 September we are launching a new project to uncover stories about the Smithdown Road area in South Liverpool, culminating in a community display in the People’s City gallery.
The Secret Life of Smithdown project will explore how over time local entrepreneurs have helped shape the neighbourhood; home to a vibrant and diverse community ranging from established residental areas, ethnically diverse communities and a large student population.
From 1 September, there will be a Museum of Liverpool mini-exhibition on display at Oomoo Café on Smithdown Road. Visit our facebook page or The Secret Life of Smithdown section of our website for more information on how to get involved.

Come Fly with Me
Curators recently appealed to seasoned Liverpool holiday makers to help research a community display bound for the Museum of Liverpool’s Global City gallery called Come Fly with Me – A People’s History of Liverpool Airport.
Two drop-in sessions were held at BBC Radio Merseyside and Liverpool John Lennon Airport, to encourage people to stop by and share their experiences and memories of Speke Airport from the 1930s to today.
Curators spoke to a wide variety of people at the drop-in sessions and are continuing their research in order to best tell the story of the airport using souvenirs, photographs and personal accounts.

Teachers' stakeholder group
The community engagement programme for the Museum of Liverpool works with groups across Merseyside to ensure the new museum reflects the aspirations of local people.
An additional group has been created for teachers, to advise the museum team on all aspects of the project’s development and ensure it excites and meets the learning needs of students.
Meeting every six weeks, the next teachers’ stakeholder group session will take place on Monday 28 September. If you would like to be involved, visit our community engagement webpage to find out more about this and other stakeholder groups we are currently working with on the development of the museum.

ECHO in the Community
National Museums Liverpool is working with the Liverpool Echo on a project focused on supporting organisations and community groups across Merseyside.
ECHO in the Community is sponsoring National Museums Liverpool to fund a competition to find a class from a Merseyside-based school, to be appointed as Little Liverpool Designers and win the chance to work with an artist to direct the final development of artwork for the Little Liverpool gallery.
The competition will be launched in the Liverpool Echo during the week commencing 7 September 2009, when teachers will be encouraged to enter their class as potential Little Liverpool Designers. Keep an eye out in the paper, or visit the ECHO in the Community website for further information.
